GUATEMALA – MAY 27, 2025 31-year-old Mónica Gabriela Morales Lemus and 36-year-old Jaime Antonio Lima Ramírez went out on one of their first dates. They were having lunch at a restaurant in El Portezuelo, near Laguna Ayarza, when her ex-boyfriend appeared at the scene. Blinded by jealousy, he intended to kill.
As shown by security cameras, he stood at a distance and watched the couple dining for a while. Suddenly, he pulled out a gun and started shooting. Jaime was hit in the head and died on the spot. Then he argued with Mónica for a moment and subsequently killed her as well.
Both dead bodies remained lying on the restaurant floor. Shocked employees and guests said it was clear that providing first aid was pointless in this case. According to their testimony, the attacker then fled the scene on foot.
Relatives of the victims stated that Mónica and Jaime had only recently started dating. They reportedly met about a week before their death. Jaime had been working in the United States for six months prior. Mónica had returned from northern Guatemala.
Officially, the motive theory for their murder has not yet been confirmed. However, the story about her bitter ex-lover was confirmed by several independent sources. Currently, this is also the only investigative theory the police are working with.
