CIPARAY, BANDUNG, WEST JAVA, INDONESIA – MAY 26, 2025 This shocking bullying case outraged all of Indonesia. A 13-year-old boy in a school uniform became the victim of anger from three of his peers, apparently because he refused to drink Tuak – a traditional alcoholic beverage made from fermented palm sap. They beat him up and threw him into a well. Throughout the whole time, they laughed at him and none of them showed even a bit of pity.
Due to loud public outcry, the police were prompted to take action. On June 24, 2025, all three perpetrators were detained and will be brought to justice. Considering their age, they can receive at most half the prison sentence compared to an adult. However, they will likely undergo some form of institutional rehabilitation focused on their correction and the best interests of the child.
