CRUZEIRO DO SUL, ACRE, BRAZIL – JULY 19, 2025 Female motorcyclist struck a stretched kite wire in the João Alves neighborhood, suffering a severe neck injury. It practically slit her throat. Before she could call for help, she bled to death. She was found in a pool of blood next to her motorcycle, with the storage compartment open – apparently trying to reach her phone with her last strength.
Sharp kite strings coated with glass fragments (known as cerol or manja) pose a deadly risk to motorcyclists. Every year, these invisible traps cause serious injuries and fatal accidents, especially in cities where kite competitions are common. Even a single such string stretched across the road can be fatal for riders.
