CODÓ, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – FEBRUARY 23, 2020 33-year-old resident of the Paciência settlement, Edilson Rodrigues da Silva, was found dead by his family in his home. His body showed several deep and wide stab and slash wounds, likely caused by a machete. Part of his leg was completely severed, probably during an attempt to defend himself.

Neither the family nor the police know who might be responsible for the murder. Edilson reportedly had no enemies and lived in a very isolated area. The police even had trouble reaching the location due to the poor condition of the access roads.
