Amputation of toes due to diabetes

Patient came to the hospital with a serious foot infection. Since necrosis was already visible on the toes, the doctors had to resort to amputating the toes on that foot. It was also discovered that the patient suffers from diabetes, which is typical for these kinds of problems.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that significantly increases the risk of infections, especially in the feet. High blood sugar weakens the immune system and damages blood vessels, slowing down wound healing. Small scrapes or blisters can quickly worsen, cause infection, and lead to necrosis – tissue death. If not treated promptly, amputation of the affected part of the foot may be necessary to prevent the infection from spreading and threatening the patient’s life. Regular foot care, blood sugar monitoring, and timely medical attention are crucial for preventing these serious complications.
