SÃO LUÍS, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – JULY 22, 2025 Shortly after the bus left the terminal in São Luís, it became the target of an attack by two armed robbers. One of the armed passengers eliminated both of them.
Bus robberies are a fairly common practice in Brazil. It’s often how young criminals start out, as it’s relatively easy and has high earning potential. They can choose a spot to ambush the bus and, under the threat of a weapon, take wallets or mobile phones from each passenger.
But this time, things didn’t go as planned for the two young robbers. One of the armed passengers was willing to defend not only his own health and property, but also that of the other passengers. He responded to the robbery with gunfire and managed to eliminate both attackers.
One of them was fatally shot and died immediately. His accomplice suffered serious injuries but survived. He was treated by paramedics, transported to the hospital, and will face charges of armed robbery.
