MALACATÁN, GUATEMALA – MARCH 15, 2026 Couple traveling on a motorcycle lost their lives in an area known as bajada del Rastro. According to all available information, they collided at high speed on their motorcycle with a truck that was traveling in the opposite direction. Both suffered such severe head injuries that their brains spilled onto the road. The victims were identified as Carlos Enrique Vásquez Esteban and Daniela Maldonado.

The truck driver stopped at the scene to provide first aid. However, when he saw their condition, he realized that any help would already be useless. During a police interrogation, he stated that he was on his usual route when the two came toward him in the wrong lane on their motorcycle. He tried to brake, but did not have much time to react.
Friends of the couple stated that they were on their way to the bus station, from where Daniela was supposed to travel by bus to Guatemala City. She had an important job interview there.
