GEORGETOWN, DEMERARA-MAHAICA, GUYANA – MARCH 26, 2025 40-year-old well-known businesswoman, Junan Gomes (sometimes written as June or Joanne), checked into the Sunflower Hotel on March 24. The hotel is located at the corner of South Road and Cummings Street. Right during check-in, she complained to the hotel staff that she wasn’t feeling well. When she didn’t leave her room #5 and failed to communicate with the front desk two days later, the staff became concerned and went to check on her. They found her dead, with foam around her mouth, lying naked on the bed.

A doctor from Georgetown Public Hospital who was called to the scene confirmed her death. Forensic technicians thoroughly searched her body and the entire room but found no signs of violence or foul play.
The court has ordered an autopsy of her body, including toxicology tests, which should clarify whether her sudden death was caused by illness, substance ingestion, or another factor.
