GUYEVO, KURSK, RUSSIA – APRIL 8, 2025 Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian forces had successfully pushed Ukrainian troops out of the village of Guyevo in the Kursk region. It’s part of a bigger offensive where Russia’s trying to take back territory that Ukrainian forces grabbed during last year’s surprise invasion.
Apparently, back in August 2024, Ukrainian troops crossed the border and managed to occupy around 1,400 square kilometers of the Kursk region — basically trying to get a better position for any future peace talks. But since then, Russian forces have been slowly taking that land back, and now Ukraine’s only holding onto about 58 square kilometers.
Videos from the area show the aftermath of the fighting. Ukrainian soldiers sadly didn’t make it out alive, while the Russians are celebrating their military success.
