NIGERIA Man working as a food courier for Bolt lost his entire arm in a serious motorcycle accident. His arm got wedged in the railing of reinforced concrete barriers as he fell from his motorcycle. The kinetic energy of his body was such that the arm tore off as easily as if it were made of paper.
The video shows the grim aftermath of the accident even before the ambulance arrived. While his arm fell down from the bridge, the victim remained lying fully conscious on the asphalt in a pool of blood.
First aid in such cases can decide between life and death. A severed limb always means massive and life-threatening bleeding. This needs to be stopped as soon as possible by all means. For example, a tourniquet can be used, or an improvised version such as a sterile piece of cloth or a trouser belt.
