SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – FEBRUARY 22, 2026 Tragic traffic accident occurred in the Ponte Rasa neighborhood on the corner of Avenida São Miguel and Rua Itamarati de Minas. A 26-year-old Portuguese citizen driving a Hyundai entered the oncoming lane and collided with a Triumph motorcycle. The rider, 39-year-old Military Police NCO Diego Richard Ferreira de Souza, was returning from his shift in civilian clothes.

The impact threw the officer against a wall, and he later succumbed to his injuries at Ermelino Matarazzo hospital. A breathalyzer test showed the driver had 0.27 mg/L of alcohol in his system (approximately 0.054% BAC). While the driver was released after questioning, authorities have seized his passport to prevent him from leaving the country during the investigation.
