EDINBURG, HIDALGO COUNTY, TEXAS, USA – AUGUST 17, 2025 Authorities received reports of a shooting in the 4500 block of Fe Drive, where deputies discovered a horrifying scene: 26-year-old Julio Cesar Soto Jr., a Mexican national with a valid visa, was found shot in the face while sitting on a couch.

A witness video, unintentionally recorded, shows the tragic sequence. The friends were drinking and singing when 32-year-old Freddy Mireles suddenly grabbed a rifle and mercilessly fired at Julio’s face.

Mireles then fled in his Corvette, but officers tracked him down the next morning and recovered the weapon. He is now being held on a $2.5 million bond, facing murder charges in what authorities describe as a senseless act of violence.
