PIURA, PERU – MARCH, 2026 65-year-old woman, María Magdalena Pardo Zapata, was struck and run over by a garbage truck. The accident occurred in the Castilla neighborhood when she was attempting to cross the street at a pedestrian crossing. She walked directly into the driver’s blind spot, who did not see her and started moving. The woman suffered critical injuries and died shortly after being transported to the hospital.
Incident is a tragic reminder of how dangerous the blind spots of large vehicles can be. Drivers of trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles often cannot see pedestrians or smaller vehicles near them, especially at intersections and crosswalks. Always exercise extreme caution around these vehicles, and pedestrians should avoid lingering near the sides or rear of large trucks.
