MEXICO Member of a Mexican drug cartel was kidnapped by his rivals from the Knights Templar cartel and taken to a remote location. There, they executed him with several shots to the head while his hands were tied behind his back.
Knights Templar (Caballeros Templarios) emerged in 2011 as a splinter group from the La Familia Michoacana cartel. The cartel presented itself as a kind of chivalric order that protects the population and fights against injustice. In reality, however, it was only engaged in drug trafficking. In 2014, after a police raid on leaders Servando Gómez Martínez and Enrique Plancarte Solís, the cartel lost most of its power. Smaller remnants of the group, however, still exist today.
