Fiery tragedy at bar in San Miguel, Argentina

SAN MIGUEL, BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE, ARGENTINA – OCTOBER 9, 2020 At Zar Burgers bar in San Miguel, near Buenos Aires, a tragic incident claimed the life of a young woman and left several others injured. While a waitress was refilling alcohol into a fiery decorative feature meant to warm guests, an explosion occurred. The flames engulfed everyone at the table.

One of the victims was 19-year-old Lucía Costa (some sources report 18). She sadly died from her burns. Eight of her friends, aged 18 to 20, suffered severe burns but survived.

The victim’s family expressed outrage over the situation. Her mother stated that no one in the restaurant acted to save her daughter and demanded justice and strict punishment for those responsible. Her uncle mentioned that it was the first night his niece had gone out with friends since the strict COVID-19 restrictions.

Investigations revealed that the damage was caused by the explosion of a 1.3-gallon (5 liters) alcohol tank that the waitress had been refilling into the decorative feature. It has not been disclosed whether any safety regulations were violated. Three individuals have been charged with negligent injury and negligent homicide.
