BARRAGANETE, ECUADOR – JUNE 8, 2025 Police received reports from two seriously injured individuals who said they had been attacked with an axe. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw three men on a motorcycle who immediately opened fire on them. The police returned fire and managed to hit and arrest all three suspects.
The suspects were identified as: 55-year-old Eduardo Inocencio R. M., 41-year-old Néstor Gregorio M. R., and 30-year-old Óscar Joel M. V. Two of them are hospitalized in serious condition. The victims, 37-year-old Erwin Merisaldo Z. Q. and 33-year-old Carlos Alfredo P. Z., suffered severe axe injuries, but doctors managed to stabilize their condition.
The attackers’ motive has not been disclosed so far and is likely still unknown to the police. It is presumed, however, that it was an act of personal revenge.
