COLOMBIA Man known as Richar, the financial leader of the 33rd front of former FARC dissidents, was neutralized by an army sniper. According to police sources, he was personally responsible for managing illegal finances derived from drugs, extortion, and kidnappings. He also coordinated logistics and weapons supply for armed groups operating in the area.
The FARC group was formed in the 1960s as a communist guerrilla movement fighting against the government. They did not shy away from terrorist attacks, targeting civilians, soldiers, and police. For this reason, the USA, EU, and Canada have designated them as a terrorist organization.
In 2016, FARC unofficially disbanded and signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government. In practice, however, the group splintered into smaller factions that continue illegal activities. Some pursue political goals aiming to overthrow the government, while others have turned to criminal enterprises such as drug trafficking.
