HUMENE VILLAGE, NORTH SUMATRA, INDONESIA – JUNE 9, 2025 Minor girl named Fitri Jelita Hulu tragically drowned while swimming in the sea at Turendra Beach. The exact circumstances of her death are still unclear, but it’s believed that strong ocean currents may have overwhelmed her.
Bystanders pulled her from the water and attempted to resuscitate her using an outdated and ineffective method – turning her upside down in an effort to drain water from her lungs. Sadly, their attempts were unsuccessful.
In emergencies like this, it’s vital to remember that if someone isn’t breathing, immediate CPR is necessary. This includes rescue breaths combined with chest compressions. Water in the lungs must be displaced by air – gravity won’t do the job. But above all, you should always call emergency services right away. The dispatcher can guide you through life-saving steps, even if you have no training. Quick, informed action can make the difference between life and death.
