SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, USA – SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 101 near the Cesar Chavez on-ramp. Police were dispatched to report a confused man moving among traffic with scissors in his hand. When officers arrived, he ignored their commands and even attempted to stab one of the officers. In response, the police used their service weapon.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Juana Antonio Serrata, was shot once in the chest. After dropping the scissors, officers immediately provided first aid and transported him to a hospital, where he was treated and stabilized.
Serrata was charged with multiple crimes, including assaulting and threatening a police officer. If convicted, he faces up to five years in state prison.
