VINH LONG, VIETNAM – APRIL 28, 2025 Nguyen Vinh Phuc used a homemade weapon to murder the truck driver responsible for his daughter’s death. He then turned the weapon on himself.
43-year-old Nguyen Vinh Phuc entered the Nga Binh agricultural supply store armed with the homemade firearm, searching for its owner – a 33-year-old man identified only as NVBT. Phuc approached him and, without saying a word, shot him in the head in front of one of the man’s employees. He then left the scene. About 650 feet (200 meters) away, on the road toward the town of Tra On, he shot himself in the head.

Both men received relatively quick medical attention and were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ efforts, neither survived.
The motive for the act became clearer during the investigation: Phuc was the father of 14-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Bao Tr., who died in a traffic accident in September 2024 caused by NVBT. The truck driver had crushed the girl after she fell off her electric scooter, startled by his dangerous overtaking maneuver.
All evidence suggests that Phuc was unable to cope with the loss of his daughter and sought revenge – even at the cost of his own life. It was particularly frustrating for him that NVBT was never convicted for the accident, as the judge ruled that both parties shared equal responsibility.
