PERI MIRIM, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – JUNE 17, 2025 Tragic incident shook the entire local community in the small town of Peri Mirim, about 60 miles (95 kilometers) from São Luís. In a shared apartment, 16-year-old Tanieli Amorim Diniz and her 31-year-old boyfriend, Cidierdy Melo Buais, were found dead.

Tanieli had a phone charger cable tightly wrapped around her neck. Cidierdy was hanging from an electrical cord attached to the ceiling. Police are investigating the case as a murder followed by suicide.
The ongoing investigation seeks to determine the motive and relies on neighbors’ testimonies to find out whether domestic violence occurred in their household. The results of the investigation have not yet been released.
