MILAN, ITALY – JULY 8, 2025 35-year-old man identified as Andrea Russo committed suicide in a very unusual way. He broke into the secured area of Milan-Bergamo airport and ran all the way to the runway. There, he threw himself directly into the jet engine of a Volotea Airbus A319, which was preparing to depart for Asturias, Spain.
Passengers on the plane reported that when the pilot announced the delay, his voice was filled with sorrow and distress. He said, “We have a very serious problem involving a person on board.”
Some media report that Andrea Russo struggled with long-term drug addiction and related mental health issues. This was likely the main motivation behind his desperate act.
