CHINA Man, for unknown reasons, decided to commit suicide and jumped to his death from the 5th floor of a shopping mall. One of the visitors tried to hold him, but he still jumped in front of several dozen people who had to witness his desperate act.
Although the visitor who held him surely had good intentions, it’s not exactly an ideal example of how to deal with a suicidal person. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, never touch the suicidal person. Give them a comfortable personal space and speak to them calmly and empathetically. Do not use commands or moralize. Always make sure the police are called to the scene, as they are trained for such situations.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
Talking about what you're going through might feel difficult, but it’s the first step toward healing. Don’t turn away from the people who want to support you. Life can offer more than what you're feeling right now, and the pain doesn't have to last forever. You deserve help, and it’s available.
