BASANTI, WEST BENGAL, INDIA – MAY 31, 2025 Shocked residents of the small Bengali village of Basanti could hardly believe their eyes when they saw a man walking down the street with a severed female head. He wandered aimlessly for a while before realizing the gravity of the situation. He then voluntarily went to the police station and surrendered.
The man was identified as Bimal Mondal, and the victim as Sati Mondal. During questioning, he confessed to her murder. She was his brother’s wife – his sister-in-law. Despite admitting to the crime, he showed no remorse.
When witnesses were summoned for questioning, many reported that the man had been shouting insults at both his brother and his sister-in-law during his walk. He claimed he was taking revenge for wrongs he had suffered over many years. All witnesses stated that Mondal appeared deranged, and they were too frightened to approach him.
