CHECHNYA, RUSSIA Photos show one of many massacres that took place during the war in Chechnya. Four headless and dismembered human bodies were found on a children’s playground. It is unclear who caused the massacre or which side the victims were on.
The Chechen war was an armed conflict between Russia and the Chechen Republic, which wanted to declare independence from Russia after the collapse of the USSR. However, this was not acceptable to Moscow, and a long-lasting war began with huge losses on both sides.
