BALLYNEETY, LIMERICK COUNTY, IRELAND – JUNE 4, 2024 Ireland was shaken by a tragic case in County Limerick, where on Tuesday late evening, twenty-three-year-old Nicole Morey died after a dog attack in her family home in Ballyneety. The tragedy occurred on the day of her 23rd birthday. The incident happened shortly before midnight, when the woman was home alone with several dogs.

Rescuers and the Irish police were called to the scene, but despite immediate assistance, the young woman succumbed to her injuries on site. Armed police officers arriving at the house encountered several very aggressive dogs. One had to be put down due to immediate danger, and three other dogs were secured.

According to Irish media, the dogs were kept inside the victim’s home, with the dog that was put down most likely being an XL Bully. The remaining dogs were reported by authorities to show traits of so-called restricted or dangerous breeds, whose ownership is subject to strict regulations.

Nicole Morey’s body was taken to the University Hospital Limerick, where an autopsy was conducted to clarify the exact circumstances of her death. The police continued to investigate the case.

The young woman’s death deeply affected the local community. Local officials reported shock and sadness among residents. Nicole Morey was described as a beloved and kind person with plans for the future, intending to work as an assistant for people with special needs.

The case reopened the debate on the ownership of strong and potentially dangerous dog breeds and the responsibility of their owners.
