INDONESIA, 2011 Missing 14-year-old boy was found several weeks later in a state of partial skeletonization. The body was discovered washed up on the riverbank. Despite the advanced stage of decomposition, the subsequent autopsy confirmed the cause of death as drowning. No foul play was proven.
Even though 14-year-olds are already fairly physically capable and know how to swim, they still lack a developed sense of risk, have no experience with strong currents, or other unexpected situations in the wild. The incident should serve as a lesson to all parents that even adolescents should never swim in natural waters without adult supervision.
