NIGERIA Members of the Christian community became the targets of an attack by a radical Islamist group in northern Nigeria. They severed the heads of several men from their bodies and left them scattered across the ground.
Although more detailed information about this specific attack is not available, similar attacks happen quite often in the north of the country. Some media even label it as religious cleansing or genocide. According to the organization Open Doors, Nigeria is the country with the highest number of Christians murdered for their faith in the world.
The north of the country is strongly Islamist, and local residents there have even pushed through the official application of Sharia law – this is in conflict with the democratic law of the Christian south. Due to the size and instability, terrorist groups and various criminal gangs operate in the north of the country.
