PAKISTAN – OCTOBER, 2025 Tensions between Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan escalated during the night of October 11–12, 2025, into an armed clash on the Afghan-Pakistani border. Some sources report that at least 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed during heavy fighting and dozens more were wounded. Pakistan denies these figures and claims 23 dead.
The armed clashes began before midnight in these border areas: Kurram, Angoor Adda, and Chaman. Taliban units carried out a series of coordinated attacks on military border outposts. The Taliban claims to have captured 25 outposts and seized a large amount of valuable military equipment. The Pakistani side, however, claims they successfully repelled the attacks, destroyed several Taliban positions, and killed more than 200 terrorists.
The Taliban described the attacks as a retaliatory operation for repeated violations of its airspace by Pakistani aircraft. Pakistan repeatedly denies this claim, calling it an act of unprovoked aggression. Both countries accuse each other of supporting extremist groups operating in the border region.
There are also reports of civilian casualties. The Taliban claims 12 civilians were killed and dozens more injured. All land border crossings between the two countries have been closed.
At present, numerous photos and videos are circulating online. Whether showing victims or captured soldiers, both sides deny the authenticity of the footage and accuse each other of spreading propaganda.
