MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM – OCTOBER 2, 2025 On the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the Jewish calendar – an attack took place at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in the Crumpsall suburb. The attacker, identified as 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian origin, drove his car into a crowd gathered outside the synagogue. He then got out and began stabbing people nearby. To spread fear, he was wearing what appeared to be a suicide vest, which was later confirmed to be fake.

Police arrived at the scene within minutes of the 999 call. Thanks to their rapid response and precise tactical execution, they were able to eliminate the attacker before he could cause further harm – undoubtedly saving many more lives that could have been lost.
The attack claimed two victims: 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz. Reports suggest that Daulby may have been accidentally shot by police while trying to lock the synagogue doors to keep the attacker out. Several others were injured.
Authorities are treating the attack as a terrorist act motivated by antisemitism. During the rampage, the attacker reportedly called 999 himself, pledging allegiance to the terrorist organization ISIS. However, investigators believe he acted alone, inspired by the group’s brutal methods but with no direct ties to it. It was also discovered that he had previously been a suspect in a rape case.
