CARTAGENA, BOLÍVAR, COLOMBIA – AUGUST 29, 2025 In the afternoon, a dramatic incident occurred in the Martínez Martelo neighborhood. A 17-year-old robber, later identified as Jesús Murillo Utria, attempted to hold up the Las Brisas car wash on El Lago Avenue. Inside, he encountered an undercover police officer, who immediately responded, triggering a shootout between the him and the suspect.
During the gunfight, the robber used a civilian as a human shield to protect himself. The man was unfortunately shot several times but miraculously survived. After roughly two minutes of gunfire, silence fell when Jesús Murillo Utria was fatally shot and collapsed to the ground.
The incident is currently under police investigation, which aims to clarify the full sequence of the robbery as well as the justification for the officer’s use of his firearm. Since a civilian was shot during the exchange, the entire situation must be thoroughly examined.
