SYRIA, 2014 War in Syria began in 2011 with the arrival of the Arab Spring, when citizens took to the streets and began to demonstrate massively against the regime of their president, Bashar al-Assad. However, the protests were very harshly suppressed by the Syrian army and police, which led to an armed uprising and the creation of the opposition army, the FSA.
By 2012, the conflict quickly escalated into a full-scale civil war. To make matters worse, the destabilized country was exploited by the infamous terrorist organization ISIS, which was at the peak of its power at that time. They established their cells in the country and actively fought against both the Syrian army and the FSA, although they initially tolerated each other.
The year 2014 was one of the bloodiest in Syria’s modern history. Public buildings, including schools, were often used as bases for armed groups. Thus, schools unfortunately became legitimate targets for bombing by the Syrian government and later Russia, which entered the conflict in 2015. According to some views, schools with children were even bombed intentionally to break the resistance of the population.
The video captures the sad aftermath of the bombing of one such school directly during lessons. Dozens of children were killed and many others were injured. Such footage is a harsh reminder of why it is necessary to know and repeat history. Only in this way can it be achieved that it never repeats itself.
