MULADI, BARISHAL, BANGLADESH – AUGUST 26, 2025 In the small village of Muladi Upazila, a shocking incident occurred when two brothers gouged out the eyes of their 36-year-old brother, Ripon Bepari. They did this on their father’s orders due to a family dispute over property. Their father demanded the return of 3.5 million Bangladeshi taka (about 29,000 dollars) and 20 grams of gold that had been kept with his uncle.
Ripon was rescued by local residents and taken to Ashukati Hospital in Gournadi. His condition worsened there, so he had to be transported to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and was subsequently moved to the National Eye Institute in the capital. He is now undergoing treatment there, but unfortunately, the likelihood of him regaining his sight is almost zero.
