SUDAN Sudanese fighters, probably belonging to the RSF faction, celebrate the death of their enemy. They hold his severed head in their hands, and chant victory slogans on camera.
The current conflict in Sudan is extremely brutal, and similar footage has become very common lately. Since 2023, a civil war has been raging there between the national army and the armed RSF faction. Recently, the RSF captured El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state. This move is considered a major escalation of the conflict, as it means the RSF have gained control over the entire western part of Sudan and thus new supply routes from Libya.
Both sides accuse each other of crimes against humanity, which unfortunately occur in Sudan almost daily. And both warring sides have blood on their hands. Their victims are often innocent civilians. Sometimes, mere suspicion of collaboration with the enemy is enough for a brutal execution.
