PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – MARCH, 2026 Three young women on a single Honda scooter were enjoying a high-speed ride across the city in the early morning hours. When the driver was suddenly surprised by a curve, she failed to react in time and crashed head-on into a road divider and a billboard. Two of them died on the spot, the third suffered critical injuries and was hospitalized. Later, however, she also died in the hospital.
The victims were taken to the Wat Teuk Thla mortuary while the search for and contacting of their families is underway. Although the police investigation is still ongoing, according to witness testimonies, high speed and possibly alcohol were clearly to blame.
The incident is a harsh reminder of the importance of following traffic regulations and basic safety rules. Never exceed the number of passengers beyond the design limit. Even though the roads are empty, always observe the maximum speed limit. And above all, never overestimate your driving abilities and invest in quality motorcycle clothing and a helmet.
