HYDERABAD, TELANGANA, INDIA – NOVEMBER 17, 2025 Several members of the transgender community resorted to an extreme form of protest to express their disagreement. During a demonstration at the Borabanda bus stop, eight protesters doused themselves with gasoline and set themselves on fire to draw attention to alleged harassment and pressure they faced from another member of the community.
The protesters were immediately taken to Gandhi Hospital with severe burns. Unfortunately, three of them lost their lives. Young women Heena (22) and Navneetha (24) were among the victims who, according to doctors, died from their burn injuries.
Following the incident, police detained a woman whom the protesters identified as the source of the conflict. The investigation is ongoing, and the case has sparked widespread discussion about the strained relationships within the transgender community and the mechanisms for protecting members from abuse.
