MANAUS, AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – JULY 8, 2025 Two men identified as 26-year-old David Renan Cavalcante da Silva and Wagner Sombra de Araújo were kidnapped on July 7 by a group of armed men from the Novo Aleixo neighborhood. They were found in a horrific state the next day in the Travessa da Bênção area of the João Paulo community (in the northern zone of Manaus).
Around them was a pool of blood and 42 spent bullet casings. David suffered at least 15 gunshot wounds, mostly to his back; he also showed signs of torture – including broken arm bones. He died at the scene. Wagner was severely wounded – shot in the head and abdomen – but survived. He was taken in critical condition by emergency services (Samu) to Platão Araújo Hospital.
According to some sources, a third man named João was kidnapped along with them. He is still missing.
Police investigations revealed that both victims had extensive criminal records tied to drug trafficking. The attack on them is believed to be connected to that activity.
