SUDAN RSF members showed no mercy to unarmed Sudanese army soldiers. Instead of taking them into custody, they executed both, committing a war crime under the 1949 Geneva Convention.
The Geneva Convention also states that it is prohibited to torture or kill soldiers without a fair trial. Any soldier who is unarmed should be taken as a prisoner of war. Yet in Sudan, this convention is violated daily by both warring parties.
Since April 2023, a domestic armed conflict has been ongoing there, involving the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and their rivals, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). These factions are primarily competing for political power.
