Vomiting blood as result of rat poison poisoning

Footage is reportedly from Syria or Lebanon and shows a young man vomiting blood after ingesting rat poison. The circumstances of the poisoning are unclear, and it’s unknown if he survived.

Rat poison typically refers to anticoagulants like warfarin or brodifacoum. These substances block vitamin K, which is essential for producing clotting factors in the blood. After ingestion, massive internal bleeding can occur within a few days. High doses of vitamin K are often effective as an antidote, and in severe cases, blood transfusions may be necessary.

If you ever ingest rat poison for any reason, don’t panic. The symptoms usually take days to appear. Try to induce vomiting as soon as possible and call emergency services immediately.
