37-year-old woman, for unknown reasons, decided to end her life using a very unusual method – she climbed into a freezer and closed the lid behind her. She was found only 6 weeks later by her neighbor, to whom she had left her cats in care, explaining that she was going abroad. But when she didn’t return, her neighbor grew suspicious and entered her home. There she found the freezer, on which was written: “My choice, my freedom, my dignity.” After opening it, she discovered her curled-up and frozen corpse and immediately contacted the police.
Criminal investigators were shocked by the discovery, mainly because they had never encountered a suicide case carried out in this manner. Her body was transported to the forensic institute, where a mandated autopsy was performed to rule out the involvement of a third party in her death. The autopsy, using histological methods, confirmed the cause of death as hypothermia and asphyxia.
