SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, USA – FEBRUARY 23, 2024 Police were called to a shooting at the 3800 block of 14th Avenue, Oak Park neighborhood. At the scene, they found a woman with a gunshot wound that initially did not appear to be serious. However, she suddenly died after being transported to the hospital.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Lillie Jones, better known to friends as Porkchop. She was a well-known figure in the local community and the mother of six children.

The police obtained footage from the security camera at her front door. It clearly shows and captures audio of Lillie having a heated argument with a man. During the argument, she goes inside to get a backpack containing a pistol. This escalates the conflict and prompts the man to shoot. Lillie is hit several times and, despite returning fire, does not hit the shooter even once.
The investigation led police to 32-year-old Avonte Teasley. He was Lillie’s former partner and the father of one of her children, who he claimed he had come to pick up. During this encounter, he got into a heated argument with Lillie and her new lesbian partner. He was at the scene with his new girlfriend, and when he saw Lillie going for the gun, he reportedly felt the need to protect her.
Avonte Teasley was arrested on March 3, charged with first-degree murder, and placed in a detention cell. His family even started a GoFundMe campaign to afford better legal representation, and they succeeded in convincing the judge and jury that it was a case of self-defense. The outcome of the trial is unfortunately unknown.
