UMUARAMA, PARANÁ, BRAZIL – SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 Maintenance worker at the Bio Energia factory tragically lost his life after falling into a sugar cane crushing machine. Although the machine had been switched off for routine upkeep, it unexpectedly restarted for unknown reasons. The machine operated for approximately 15 to 20 seconds, during which it pulled in and severely crushed the worker’s body, effectively causing his death. Forensic specialist Dimas Castilha confirmed that the duration the machine ran was sufficient to be fatal.
