OEIRAS, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL – MARCH 31, 2024 On the BR-230 highway, also known as the Transamazônica, a young couple traveling on a motorcycle died. They had a head-on collision with a passing vehicle, which fled the scene. They were only found later by a passing driver, lying on the road, mutilated in a pool of blood. Both were torn apart, and the woman even had a piece of her brain exposed. It was clear that neither of them had any chance of survival. The victims were identified as 24-year-old Jerônimo Sousa and his 23-year-old girlfriend Weslane Santos.
The truck driver who fled the scene was later caught during a routine traffic stop near the town of Sertânia. He was a 41-year-old man from the city of Feira Nova in the state of Pernambuco. He admitted he knew about the accident but did not report it out of fear of the consequences. He also stated that at the time of the crash, he was exhausted, having driven more than 16 hours straight.
