Such a condition is immediately life-threatening, as it disrupts breathing, causes significant blood loss, and later can lead to infection.
First aid in such cases involves immediately calling emergency services and keeping the patient in a position that minimizes pressure on the wound. It is absolutely inappropriate to try to push the lung back inside. Instead, it is recommended to cover the eviscerated lung with a sterile film or gauze to minimize the risk of infection.
