PASIR PUTEH, KELANTAN, MALAYSIA – AUGUST, 2025 38-year-old man had to repair his excavator but had no one to watch his two children, a 10-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. He therefore entrusted his daughter to look after her brother while he worked on the excavator. Unfortunately, this decision proved fatal.
The daughter neglected her supervision and lost sight of her brother, Nik Muhammad Adam Asyraf. The last time she saw him, he was playing by the riverbank of the Kuala Semerak River, and then he simply disappeared.
An extensive search for the boy began, involving neighbors as well. Tragically, the search ended badly – Nik Muhammad was found drowned several hundred feet away near the river’s delta. All resuscitation attempts were unfortunately in vain.
Nothing in the world can bring the boy back, and both his father and sister will surely carry the guilt for his death for the rest of their lives. If his unnecessary death can at least serve some purpose, let it be a warning to others. Never leave small children unsupervised by an adult, especially near water. Brief supervision by an older sibling is only acceptable if the sibling is responsible and you have complete trust in them. Always remember, a tragedy can be caused by a single bad decision or a single second.
