RIO BRANCO, ACRE, BRAZIL – MAY 5, 2026 Shooting at Instituto São José claimed the lives of two female school employees. 36-year-old Raquel Sales Feitosa and 53-year-old Alzenir Pereira da Silva were shot and died. Two other people, an employee and a student, were injured.

The shooter was reportedly a 13-year-old student, Miguel, who brought his stepfather’s handgun to the school. According to police, he obtained the key to the safe, took the weapon without his family’s knowledge, and fired several shots at the school. After the attack, he surrendered to police and was placed in state custody.

According to police and witness accounts, both employees intervened during the attack in an attempt to prevent the shooter from gaining access to the classrooms. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation; bullying was also among the possibilities being examined. The boy’s stepfather was detained over the firearm and was later released.
