Her family went looking for her, following the usual route she takes to school. They found her hanging from a tree branch. She used some green rope as a noose. She was wearing her school uniform and had a school bag on her shoulder. Her sandals lay scattered around her hanging body, probably caused by twitching in agony.
Her family members immediately took her down from the noose and tried to revive her. Unfortunately, all attempts were futile. Later estimates by forensic experts say that she had been dead for more than an hour by this time.

The results of the forensic autopsy ruled out the possibility of rape or murder. The cause of her death was determined to be asphyxiation.
Her family said Lorieth had a cousin who was very close to her. But he hanged himself six weeks before her death and she had been severely depressed ever since. This is believed to be the motive for her actions.
