NANNING, CHINA – FEBRUARY 20, 2025 18-year-old Chinese girl decided to end her life and threw herself off a high bridge over a river. She live-streamed the whole thing on a Chinese social network. She wore a blank expression during the entire stream and showed no emotion at all.
As viewers came to her live stream, everyone was left shocked and didn’t know what to do. Some begged her not to do it, others called the police.
The incident reportedly took place on the Yongjiang Bridge, which is unfortunately a frequent site of suicides. Since 2023, from time to time, a video of a suicide jumping off this bridge appears on the internet. The city has even set up special police patrols to deal with suicides there.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
