LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM 19-year-old girl overdid it with alcohol at a party, vomited on her shirt, and fell asleep for more than 12 hours. Prolonged contact of her stomach acid with the skin caused chemical burns on her breasts and upper abdomen.
Although doctors are well aware of the very low pH of stomach acid, they said it was the first time in their lives they had encountered something like this. The patient was prescribed an antibiotic ointment, after which her wounds began to heal quickly.
According to doctors, the basic prevention lies in not consuming alcohol, as it stimulates the secretion of stomach acid. If it comes into contact with the skin, the area should be thoroughly washed. After vomiting, even without alcohol consumption, it is not recommended to brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes due to the weakened enamel, which could be more easily damaged.
