MUMBAI, INDIA – DECEMBER 14, 2024 Heartbreaking accident took the life of 19-year-old Suraj Narayan Yadav. He was working at a small food stall in the Worli area, making Chinese snacks, when his shirt got caught in an electric grinder. The machine pulled him in, and despite efforts to save him, Suraj tragically didn’t survive.
Originally from Jharkhand, Suraj had only recently started this job. The stall owner, Sachin Kothekar, had put him in charge of operating the grinder, even though Suraj had no prior experience or training to handle such equipment. The whole incident was caught on a security camera, showing just how quickly it all unfolded.
The police are now investigating Kothekar for negligence, as it’s clear that proper safety precautions weren’t in place. This tragic event has sparked a larger conversation about the lack of training and safety measures in small-scale businesses, especially at street food stalls where such standards are often ignored.
Suraj’s death is a painful reminder of how critical it is to follow safety protocols when using dangerous machinery. It also raises important questions about who is responsible for ensuring workers in such informal setups are protected from these risks.
